Conservation Work

Traditional building craft is at the heart of Syme Historic. We care about the health of old buildings and our shared architectural heritage. Years of experience have taught us how the inappropriate use of modern materials can be extremely detrimental to the fabric of old houses. This same experience has also taught us how best this degradation can be mitigated.
In line with Historic England guidance, we aim to conserve as much of the original fabric of the house as possible, whilst adequately addressing all structural issues apparent. We will put back only the best and most appropriate materials in a sympathetic way.

Extensions

We have added extensions to many buildings and our knowledge and experience allows us to advise our clients how best to complement their existing home, whether this is through a traditional or contemporary style.

New Builds

Many years of learning from historic buildings is constantly enriching our understanding of their form, structure and place in its context.  We develop knowledge gleaned from the past, to create homes with integrity for the future.

Porches, Pergolas & Gazebos

Whether your requirement is a year round pizza oven shelter-cum-dining area, or a place to sit and sip a beverage whilst gazing across your manicured estate, we feel sure to be able to service that requirement to your utmost satisfaction.

Flooring

Our hand planed, traditionally coloured, waxed/oiled timber floor boards can be used to reinstate a traditional floor in an old house that has lost its lower parts to the ravages of rot. They can also be used to introduce a warm and characterful element to any building that might require such.

Doors

Hand built, two inch thick, solid oak, hung on wrought iron pintles, driven into the structural door surround; medieval fashion, we would love to provide your home with a door that would prove a challenge to any dark age marauder.
