Conservation Work: Text

Example 1

Having suffered badly from the application of impervious modern building materials, this lovely example of a Civil War era agricultural cottage received timely attention from ourselves.

The conservative task here involved the phased removal and replacement of 80% of the footprint of the timber frame.

Example 2

When first we came to this site, structural failure was evident by the modern render cracking around the base as the timber frame rotted behind it. Once the modern render had been removed, it became evident that significant timber repair was required.

We embarked upon a full, phased, circumnavigation of the building, removing a large proportion of the external walls before rebuilding back down to the ground.

Once structurally sound, the modern, Portland cement based, render was replaced with a breathable lime based one.
